Lake Ella Growers Market

Behind the Black Dog Café  on  Lake Ella Drive

Just off North Monroe Street

Official times 3-530ish

Today we will be exhibiting for sale some of the finest lettuces we have ever been privileged to grow.

Tango, Red Star, Victoria, Revolution, Winter Density, Buttercrunch.

In our short lettuce growing history these are unparalleled for beauty and taste.

We will also have our most precious commodity of the short late winter early spring season ……GREEN GARLIC. Like the lead dancer in a classic ballet. A meal just aint complete without the long green one.

The award for Best Supporting Actor, in a dramatic play goes to the SCALLIONS. On her way to her career pinnacle in June as the melody in any dish - the Shallot. She now plays smaller roles raw in salads, sautéed, or as that elegant finishing touch the garnish.

Don’t call the PURPLE MUSTARD GREENS pedestrian. They are anything but. Some people who say they don’t like mustards like these, they are more mild than the super curly ones and don’t hold onto the sand.

ARUGULA will be with us today also. Who would have thought 20 years ago that this wild Italian upstart would become a staple on American plates, a mainstay of the Salad as we know it? It gives hope to the purslane and cress.

We will have tomato plants and worm castings too.

Raw Naturel will be at Lake Ella again this Wednesday from 3-6 PM, barring rain. The menu is basically the same, Green Lemonade, Zucchini Hummus, Cashew Cream, Fettucini Alfredo, Toona-ish Salad, Nofish Nori Rolls, French Onion Bread, new improved Vege Burgers, and Nut Butter Balls.  You may email Beverly and get on her email list:

Greetings friends,

We are coming into the best season at Lake Ella. The weather will be fine.  The produce will be abundant. We will be seeing more new growers and everything is coming up tomatoes.

Thank you to all the helpers who came on Sunday and helped us get 300 more tomato plants in the ground. We appreciate prayers for no further freezes below 32 degrees. We had more helpers under the age of 15 than we have had in a long time and that made things really fun. We will have another volunteer day in a few weeks.

The Compost Workshop is the last Sunday of this month. Day after the Springtime Tallahassee Parade and the Open House at Crescent Moon Farm in Sopchoppy. 5 dollars at the gate. Please carpool as our parking area is not vast. Registration is not required but rsvp is good so we have a clue how many might come. Thanks.

Thank you for your support of sustainable agriculture[sequestering carbon, reducing erosion and nitrate runoff, increasing topsoil, feeding people healthy food from healthy soil],

Miss Louise and Farmer Herman
